Ortezzano annovera nel suo territorio numerose chiese urbane e rurali, alcuni di modeste dimensioni altre di rilevante interesse storico artistico.
Fra le chiese “fuori dalla porta del castello” o chiese rurali troviamo quella di Sant’Antonio da Padova; questa originariamente apparteneva alla confraternita del Santo Spirito.
Nel 1811 insieme ad alcuni fondi rustici viene acquistata dal demanio; nel 1831 i sacerdoti Benedetto e Raffaele Carboni ottengono dalla Tesoreria generale di Roma la cessione della chiesa, purché la restaurassero e la riaprissero al culto.
Nel 1863 la piccola chiesa rurale diventa chiesa cimiteriale, qui venne sepolto il noto latinista prof. Giuseppe Carboni ed ancora oggi qui riposa.
Negli ultimi anni la chiesa è stata sconsacrata ed è stata adibita ad auditorium comunale.
Ortezzano has a number of urban and rural churches, some of modest dimensions, others of great historic and artistic interest. Among the churches which lie “outside the castle door”, i.e. rural churches, “Sant’Antonio da Padova” church can be found; this church originally belonged to the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit.In 1811, it was bought, together with some farmland, by the state; in 1831 the General Treasury of Rome handed over the church to two priests, Benedetto and Raffaele Carboni, who would restore it and then reopen it for worship.In 1863 this small rural church became a church cemetery; here the noted Latin scholar Prof. Giuseppe Carboni was buried and still lies here today. Recently the church has been deconsecrated and has become a community auditorium.
